Top Sinaloa Cartel boss arrested near the Arizona border

A senior leadership figure for the Sinaloa Cartel leader was apprehended in Nogales, Sonora, by Mexico’s Federal Police (AIC-PGR) and Army units on Monday.

The Attorney General’s Office of Mexico (PGR) announced the arrest of Josué Iván Torres González aka “El Chango” (Monkey) during a string of raids which also resulted in the apprehension of two associates and the seizure of meth, firearms, vehicles, and telecommunication devices, KVOA reports.

According to authorities, Torres González was identified as the second-in-command of a violent group called Los Demonios (The Demons), which is a cell of the Sinaloa Cartel and heavily involved in the trafficking of heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, along with illegal human smuggling into Arizona.

Torres González’s criminal group was also believed to be responsible for a significant amount of cartel-related violence in the area.

Torres Gonzalez and his organization were also targeted by U.S.Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in coordination with officials from the Mexican Attorney General’s Office.

Media reports revealed that this effort resulted in the arrest of 19 members affiliated with the Sinaloa Cartel.

The investigation also resulted in the seizure of 12 vehicles, more than 182 kilos of meth, 33 kilos of cocaine, 13 kilos of heroin, and an unidentified amount of U.S. currency from July 2017 to March 2018.

Additionally, a former Mexican police chief from Nogales believed to be cooperating with cartels and was arrested after he illegally crossed into Arizona while escaping authorities. U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents arrested the former chief and transferred him over to the DEA. The former chief was then deported back to Mexico for prosecution.

According to Breitbart Texas, police officers from the Nogales Municipal Police were also arrested attempting to smuggle drugs into Arizona; robbing two businesses at gunpoint; and another was busted trying to smuggle drugs into a state prison in Sonora.
