A veteran Chicago police officer has confessed to paying four girls as young as 14-years-old for sex, sometimes leaving a firearm under his pillow during the illegal encounters before going to work.

William Whitley — who was charged in a graphic federal criminal complaint filed in 2016 — entered a guilty plea this week to one count of sex trafficking of a minor. He also acknowledged that he paid for sex with three others, whose ages ranged from 14 to 17, multiple times between 2012 and 2016.

He faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to life in prison, ABC13 reports.

Whitley usually got in touch with the 14-year-old via text, telling her to come to his apartment for sexual encounters and would pay $60 to $150 per session before he heading to work between June and September 2015.

The girl initially told Whitley she was 23, but she was only 14 at the time and sported metal braces. Whitley eventually informed the girl that he was a law enforcement officer and often wore a gold chain around his neck with a Chicago Police Department medallion.

During one encounter in September 2015, Whitley texted the girl to go to his apartment for sex “B4 I gotta work,” the complaint states.

Whitley also took sexually explicit pictures of the other girls and kept their numbers stored in his phone under nicknames like “Bunny” and “Mocha.”

Federal officials started investigating in 2015 after an undercover officer pretending to be a potential customer contacted the 14-year-old girl via the website Backpage, which was shut down in April after its operators were charged with promoting prostitution and cash laundering. The girl agreed to cooperate with police after she was arrested in the Chicago bust.

She later told investigators that she met Whitley at sex parties. The parties, the girl alleged, were arranged by a woman who hosted older men looking to pay to have sex with teen runaways.

Whitley, who was a patrol cop in the city’s Wentworth area, was stripped of his powers and reassigned to desk duty in 2015 due to the federal investigation. Whitley was listed in police records as “inactive” on Tuesday, according to a police spokesperson.

Whitley is set to be sentenced on September 4th.
