Celebrity chef Mario Batali faces new sexual assault allegations

A woman who was formerly employed by Mario Batali accused the disgraced celebrity chef of drugging and sexually assaulting her back in 2005 after she woke up upstairs from his New York City hotspot the Spotted Pig surrounded by broken bottles with scratches on her body and semen on her clothes.

The woman, who worked at Batali’s Babbo on Waverly Place, told CBS‘ “60 Minutes” in an interview that he asked her to accompany him to a party at the Spotted Pig, a popular restaurant in which he had a financial stake.

The woman claimed that she remembers sitting with the chef at a table on the second-floor drinking wine.

“It gets foggy for me. This is — part of the messy, scary part, there is a part where it — it disappears,” the woman said, who requested to remain anonymous because she was looking for a job in the restaurant industry. “I remember a moment where I was on his lap, kissing him. Then I remember throwing up — in a toilet. That is all.”

The next thing she said she remembered was waking up in the morning on the restaurant’s third floor, which Batali and owner Ken Friedman named the “rape room,” where wild sexual antics and drug use were common.

“I woke up by myself, I don’t know where I am, an empty room, wooden floor. I see broken bottles. The first thing I think is, ‘I’ve been drugged.’ That was the first thing I thought, ‘I’ve been — I’ve been assaulted.’”

She told Anderson Cooper she discovered evidence of the incident on her skirt.

“There were two areas. It looked like DNA,” she recalled.

“Semen?” Cooper inquired.

“Semen,” she replied.

Batali resigned from his restaurant empire last December after he was accused of sexual assault by numerous women, and released an apology for his years of unacceptable behavior. Friedman also apologized in December after he was accused by ten women of groping them or making sexual requests.

Batali “vehemently” rejected the woman’s allegations in a statement to CBS.

Hours later, the woman saw Batali when she went back to work at Babbo and approached him about it.

“I asked him. ‘What happened?’ He just was silent, wouldn’t talk to me,” she recalled.

After her shift, she contacted a crisis hotline, got examined at a hospital and spoke to an NYPD investigator.

But she maintained that she couldn’t go through with it.

“They tried to get me to file a report. They tried, But I — you know, a young actress, no resources, no money. I couldn’t do it,” she added.
