A graphic design teacher from Nevada has been taken into custody for engaging in a sexual relationship with a student.

On Thursday, 33-year-old Maren Nicole Oates was arrested and remains in custody on $20,000 bail.

Oates was a graphic design teacher at the Academy of Arts, Careers, and Technology in Reno.

She was put on administrative leave from the school following her arrest, KOLO reported.

She was arrested by Washoe County School police and booked into Washoe County jail after she was charged with being a school employee engaged in sex with a pupil.

The school district published a statement indicating that an investigation is being conducted.

“Washoe County School Police are investigating allegations that a District employee engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a student. The employee has been placed on administrative leave,” the statement read.

“The safety and security of students and staff is our number-one priority. The District cannot discuss personnel issues,” it continued.

She was removed from the school’s website staff directory on Friday.
