New Jersey Police launch probe into cops violent arrest of female beachgoer

The police officers who were caught on camera during a violent struggle with a young woman on a beach in New Jersey have been removed from their posts pending an investigation into the incident.

The Wildwood (N.J.) Police Department also indicated that 20-year-old Emily Weinman, of Philadelphia, was hit with multiple charges — including two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer and possession of alcohol by a minor.

A 54-second clip posted online shows one of the officers punching Weinman, then flipping her over with his forearm across her neck before she was restrained with assistance from a colleague, the New York Post reports.

A third officer also kept witnesses at bay.

By Sunday afternoon, the footage had been watched roughly 2 million times since it was posted on Twitter by @HewittLexy, who said she filmed the melee on Wildwood beach just after 4 pm on Saturday.

“An Internal Affairs Investigation was initiated into this matter, and the officers have been reassigned to administrative duty pending the outcome of a full, thorough investigation,” the Wildwood PD said in a statement on Facebook.

“While Chief [Robert Regalbuto] finds this video alarming, he does not want to rush any judgment until having the results of the investigation.”
