A Border Patrol agent has been shot in the Tucson Sector. According to Tucson Sector spokesperson Chris Sullivan that an agent had been shot, but that he is “expected to be okay.”

As the situation continues to develop, the sector has not released any additional information.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sais in a press release that the shooting took place between 3:30 and 4:30 am on Tuesday in the Chimney Canyon area.

An official indicated that the agent was shot in the chest and back as well as in the hand and knee, but heavy body armor stopped the shots to the chest and back.

The wounded Border Patrol agent, who is a paramedic, was reportedly applied a tourniquet and administered himself an IV before he was transported by an emergency medical helicopter to a hospital.

The victim was attacked on a trail and that a group of four or five undocumented migrants were later arrested in the area.

However, reports remain unclear whether the captured migrants were connected to the shooting.
