A six-month investigation by federal agents and undercover police resulted in the arrests of 13 suspects for their roles in operating a meth trafficking network in northern Nevada.

The 13 suspects including the ringleader were charged Thursday on multiple counts of conspiracy and distribution of methamphetamine.

A federal magistrate in Reno unsealed the criminal complaint on Friday.

A judge signed an order in April approving the interception of multiple suspects’ cell phone calls after the FBI launched the investigation in Reno in January with the help of at least one paid informant.

U.S. Magistrate Valerie Cook ordered the alleged leader, 36-year-old Jose Valentin Mora, held without bail pending a court appearance Monday, according to Local News4.

Mora is charged with one count of distributing at least 50 grams of methamphetamine, two counts of distributing at least 50 grams of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine.

Cook appointed Mora a federal public defender, who didn’t immediately comment on the case as of Friday evening.

Court records show the other co-conspirators include, Jose Vega who is charged with one count of distributing at least 50 grams of a mixture and substance containing a detectable amount of methamphetamine; while Jose Mora, Marcos Hernandez, and Ciara Hernandez were charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute at least 500 grams of a mixture and substance containing methamphetamine.

The remaining defendants Javier Chavez, Shawn Curl, Juan Baca, Richard Rossall, and Marco Antonio Ramirez had their initial appearance late Friday in federal court.

Court records don’t indicate whether the others have lawyers or will be appointed one.
