Pit bull hailed as a hero after saving a family from a house fire and pulling a 7-month-old girl by her diaper

An 8-month-old pit bull in California is being hailed as a hero after she signaled her family to a fire in their apartment complex – and then saved their 7-month-old child by dragging her by her diaper.

When flames erupted at the complex where Nana Chaichanhda resides in Stockton, California, her dog Sasha, who was outside, immediately took action, and started “to bang on the back door.”

“I open it and she runs and starts barking like crazy and I was like, ‘OK, this is weird. This is not like her,’” Chaichanhda said to FOX40.

After noticing the flames take over part of the apartment complex, Chaichanhda ran to get her 7-month-old daughter. When she walked into the room, however, the pup was already trying to save the baby.

“She already had my baby by the diaper and was dragging her off the bed,” she added. “I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, what are you doing?'”

Thanks to her loving dog, the family safely made it out of the apartment. But the damage from the fire has left the apartment unlivable.

For now, Chaichanhda, her daughter, Sasha, as well as her cousin whose apartment was also ravaged by the flames, are staying with an aunt who also lives in an area of the complex that was not impacted by the fire.

The Stockton Fire Department told FOX40 that they are still looking into what caused the fire.

“It meant a lot. I owe her everything,” Chaichanhda said of her dog. “If it wasn’t for her, I would have been in bed and things could have taken a worse turn.”
