5 undocumented immigrants killed in a deadly crash while fleeing Border Patrol agents

Texas authorities say at least five undocumented immigrants were killed and several others wounded Sunday after an SUV carrying more than a dozen people rolled over while fleeing from Border Patrol agents 90 miles northeast of San Antonio.

Dimmit County Sheriff Marion Boyd told San Antonio television station WOAI that the SUV was traveling at speeds exceeding more than 100 mph midday Sunday when it careened out of control and overturned on Texas Highway 85.

Boyd said the occupants were ejected from the vehicle.

Four people were pronounced dead at the scene while a fifth person died at a hospital, the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a statement.

The remaining injured were flown by helicopter to San Antonio.

Most of the victims were believed to be immigrants in the U.S. illegally.

Boyd said the driver of the SUV and one passenger are believed to be U.S. citizens.

Both suspects have been arrested and remain in custody.
