Las Vegas Police Officer Manuel Gutierrez charged with raping wife’s best friend inside couple’s home

A Las Vegas police officer was taken into custody after he was accused of the rape of his wife’s best friend — who woke up to the suspect on top of her after a night of drinking at the couple’s residence.

The victim, Vivian Solomon, from San Diego, told KSNV that she went to visit her friend last week, and met the woman’s husband, Las Vegas Police Officer Manuel Gutierrez, and their 6-month-old child for the first time. After a Saturday night full of drinking, she went to sleep at the couple’s house.

“I woke up and he was on top of me,” Solomon maintained. “I asked him to stop, screamed to get out. I was disoriented, confused and scared.”

Solomon then told police that she then took an Uber to Southern Hills Hospital before she was escorted by authorities to University Medical Center, where a rape exam was conducted.

“I couldn’t imagine that would ever have happened,” she continued. “I thought I was in my best friend’s home in a safe place — the home of a police officer.”

Solomon noted that Gutierrez’s wife was remorseful for her husband’s behavior, saying she “had no words” for what he did.

The 37-year-old suspect has been employed with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police since 2014. He was suspended without pay after he was arrested on Saturday.

Solomon has since gone home to San Diego, but she can’t forget the pain and anguish from the attack.

“I am traumatized and I consider myself a strong woman,” she stated. “I am crumbled.”

Gutierrez, who has been charged with one count of sexual assault, remained in custody at the Clark County Detention Center in lieu of $25,000 bail. He’s set to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on August 30th.
