On Saturday, border patrol agents in Texas revealed that they arrested six immigrants trying to cross into the U.S. by hiding in furniture cabinets.

Agents working in the Laredo sector discovered the immigrants while patrolling US Highway 59, which is just miles away from the Mexican border.

According to the Daily Mail, a canine unit signaled to the presence of human cargo while carrying out a vehicle inspection.

The vehicle’s driver, a U.S. citizen, was apprehended by Border Patrol and was later turned over to Homeland Security to face charges.

demonstrates said the incident illustrates the dangers immigrants face from human traffickers, who put their lives at extreme risk to get them across the border.

“This rescue illustrates how Border Patrol works not only to enforce laws but to protect the sanctity of life along the border,’ Greg Burwell, Laredo Sector Assistant Division Chief, stated.

“We will work diligently to disrupt and degrade criminal organizations that put people’s lives in danger. We will do whatever it takes to save lives and prevent people from being subjected to dangerous situations,” he continued.

Border Patrol officials said that the immigrants were stuck inside the cabinets and tightly wrapped with straps encasing the outside, leaving them with no way to get out.
