Cops: Couple high on bath salts shot at fireflies thinking they were aliens

Authorities in Pennsylvania arrested a couple who had gotten high on bath salts after one of them shot a gun into the sky at fireflies believing they were aliens.

According to NBC4, the bizarre encounter occurred after 30-year-old Jesse Shields and 22-year-old Katherine McCloskey, took the drugs before terrorizing their neighbors in Lamar Township last Saturday.

Police officials said Shields and McCloskey told officers that they thought that the fireflies in the sky were lasers – coming from alien spaceships.

Shields shot his firearm in the air to scare the aliens and then fled to a nearby residence.

He asked the homeowner to call the police because something was coming after him. The neighbor told authorities that Shields broke the screen door with his gun before he escaped.

The pair then reportedly broke into another residence, where the neighbors were woken up by the ruckus. Shields was shouting and McCloskey was sobbing in the living room.

Shields asked them to call the police and wanted to take a shower to get off the “goo” that was allegedly burning his skin.

Authorities arrived and took both individuals into custody on burglary and drug charges.

Both remain at the Clinton County Correctional Facility.
