Former NBA player Tyler Honeycutt shot and killed himself during standoff

Former basketball NBA player Tyler Honeycutt shot and killed himself on Saturday morning.

The 27-year-old former UCLA star was allegedly acting erratically when his mother contacted authorities on Friday night, ABC7 reported.

He then started opening fire at responding police, who proceeded to shoot back.

The man then barricaded himself inside of his Sherman Oaks home.

A SWAT team busted into the house at roughly 3:30 am and discovered that he was fatally shot.

The LAPD issued a statement on Twitter regarding the incident saying Tyler Honeycutt “sustained injuries consistent with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

Honeycutt, who is originally from Sylmar, California, played at UCLA between 2009 and 2011 when the Sacremento Kings drafted him in the second round.

He played with the Kings for two seasons before he was traded to the Houston Rockets in 2013.

After the Rockets waived him, Honeycutt played in the Euro leagues in Russia and Turkey.
