Florida gas station owner charged with attempted murder after shooting beer thief

Police in Florida arrested a gas station store owner for attempted murder after he allegedly shot a man for stealing $36 worth of beer from the convenience store.

Polk’s County Sheriff’s Office said 22-year-old Mehedeun Hasan, was charged with attempted murder for the shooting of 43-year-old Rennie Defoe, Jr.

According to Fox 13, the shooting occurred Tuesday night after Defoe robbed three 18-packs of Natural Ice beer from the store.

Hasan and his 61-year-old father, who is the co-owner of the gas station, witnessed Defoe steal the beer.

Surveillance footage shows Hasan retrieving a gun and confronting DeFoe in his vehicle.

As Hasan and his father chase after Defoe, Hasan apparently drops and kicks the gun.

Hasan, who has no criminal record, is seen in the footage pointing the gun directly into Defoe’s car window and opening fire as he backs up and speeds away.

After suffering gunshot wounds to his arm and chest, Defoe crashed his car and he was later transported to a hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Sheriff’s officials say Defoe was recently released from prison and has a lengthy criminal history, which includes prior convictions for robbery, drug possession, and domestic battery.
