A bank robber last week entered a Bank of America branch in Murphy located roughly 25 miles north of Dallas, and poured lighter fluid and gas on the floor and demanded money.

Authorities in Murphy said bank tellers and office staff dialed 911 last Wednesday just before 1:30 p.m., and when police arrived, the 36-year-old suspect, Evelyn Misumi, was walking out of the building toward her vehicle, WTNH reported.

“Police elected not to draw weapons as no danger to themselves or surrounding individuals was apparent,” the department announced in a press release. “They did, however, attempt to impede her escape by tasing her. When that proved unsuccessful, officers used pepper spray.”

Officials said when the suspected bank robber got to her vehicle, she pulled a child out of the car and tried to use the child as a guard. She ultimately surrendered to authorities.

The Kenyan woman was arrested and booked into the Collin County Detention Center where she remains in custody. She has been charged with robbery and child endangerment.

The child was brought to Children’s Medical Center as a precaution to ensure that the child did not suffer from any side effects from the pepper spray that had been used on the woman. The child was reportedly unharmed.
