Texas authorities arrested the boyfriend of an Alamo City official for hindering a drug investigation where she’s charged with leaking information to purported drug dealers.

Law enforcement officials in South Texas said 36-year-old Eddie Bernal Ramirez was charged with tampering with physical evidence and hindering a drug investigation.

Alamo Police Chief Baudelio Castillo said Ramirez tampered with evidence moments before the arrangement of his girlfriend, 35-year-old Crystal Denise Garza, an Alamo City who was charged Friday with engaging in organized criminal activity.

Castillo revealed that Ramirez tried to conceal Garza’s cellphone from detectives investigating whether she used her position to leak information including the identities of undercover drug agents and pending investigations.

Garza was subsequently released after posting $40,000 bond.

Meanwhile, Ramirez was ordered held on $40,000 bond following a court appearance on Saturday, The Brownsville Herald reported.

Both Ramirez and Garza each face third-degree felonies, which if convicted, could face up to 10 years in prison

Castillo said the investigation is ongoing and expects to make more arrests in the case.
