Former WWE star Brian Christopher Lawler dead after jail hanging

Brian Christopher Lawler, the son of legendary wrestler Jerry “The King” and a former WWE star himself who went by the nickname Grandmaster Sexay, died at 46-years-old on Sunday.

Lawler reportedly tried to commit suicide on Saturday night, according to TMZ Sports, by hanging himself in a jail cell outside of Memphis.

He was rushed to a local area hospital, where he died surrounded by loved ones. His father, the legendary wrestler and WWE commentator Jerry Lawler, was with him when he died.

Brian Christopher Lawler had run into issues with law enforcement, most recently in early July, when he was charged with DUI and had not pulled over when officers started trailing him.

When he eventually pulled over, the car smelled of alcohol.

Lawler was part of the tag team Too Cool with Scotty 2 Hotty, and he was a professional wrestler from the late 1980s until 2014, when he made his last WWE appearance.

“WWE extends its condolences to Lawler’s family, friends, and fans,”WWE said in a statement.

“RIP Brian Christopher,” WWE wrestler Zack Ryder wrote. “I think I had every piece of Too Cool merch in 2000.”

It was a horrible Sunday for professional wrestling, which also saw the losses of Nikolai Volkoff and Brickhouse Brown.
