The US Coast Guard and Maryland authorities initiated an intense search after a “very drunk woman” jumped off a Maryland drawbridge on Sunday.

Authorities said the Coast Guard and Maryland Natural Resources Police searched for the woman for several hours using boats and police helicopters after she jumped off the bridge on Route 50 in Ocean City at around 9:20 p.m. Sunday night.

According to the Daily Times of Salisbury, rescue teams were unsuccessful in locating the woman either in the water or along the shoreline.

However, Ocean City Police received reports at 11:26 p.m. by people who witnessed “what appeared to be a highly intoxicated female, in a bikini, stumbling around.”

According to court documents, witnesses also told responding officers that the intoxicated woman, identified as 39-year-old Brooke North, had fallen down on her face.

North, an Ocean City resident, appeared to have poor balance and was seen “staggering towards the road.”

The woman admitted to cops she was “very drunk” and had jumped off the bridge because “she just likes swimming and wanted to get away.”

She eventually washed up on the rocks.

While speaking to police, North also started randomly started yelling at passing vehicles.

Authorities arrested the woman on several charges including public drunkenness, causing a disturbance, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace for jumping off the bridge.

North was released from custody after posting $5,000 bail.
