Seth Welch and Tatiana Fusari were charged with felony murder and first-degree abuse over their daughter Mary died last week.

The Christian parents of a 10-month-old child who was killed after being malnourished and dehydrated in Michigan after they reportedly neglected to get medical assistance for religious reasons are facing life behind bars.

On Monday, 27-year-olds Seth Welch and Tatiana Fusari were charged with felony murder and first-degree abuse over their daughter Mary died last week.

In shocking footage recorded in a Kent County court, Welch stared at the judge with his mouth open as she read the charges, while Fusari sobbed, WOOD-TV reported.

First responders discovered Mary with sunken eyes and cheeks after Welch dialed 911 to say he had discovered the child dead in her crib. An autopsy revealed that the cause of death was malnutrition and dehydration due to neglect.

Welch and Fusari were questioned where they confessed to noticing their daughter was skinny and underweight as early as a month before she died.

The couple, who is from Cedar Springs, did not solicit medical assistance “for fear of having Child Protective Services called, lack of faith and trust in medical services and religious reasons,” court records indicate.

Welch has posted about CPS, distrust of medical professionals, and his religious beliefs on Facebook in often rambling clips. In one video, he discussed his refusal to get his children vaccinated because “God is sovereign over disease.”

He also rejected physicians as “priesthoods of the medical cult.”

Welch also posted about his child’s death on Facebook and wrote: “heart is shattered right now.”

“Woke up to Mary dead in her bed – this evening had our children removed and placed on “no contact” because Tati and I are the worst parents – Thankfully they are with grandma and grandpa. Numb inside right now. I’m enjoying the loving embrace of an isolation cell from the cops who keep assuring me “they are only here to help.”‘

Welch posted his beliefs on hand-painted signs fastened to trees and on the fence out front on his residence. “Repent. Believe. Obey,” one message said.

He also talked about someone calling the police on him when he initially declined to vaccinate his oldest daughter.

“It didn’t seem smart that you would be saving people who weren’t the fittest,” he said in the footage. ‘If evolution believes in survival of the fittest, why are we vaccinating? Shouldn’t we just let the weak die and let the strong survive?’

His two other kids, including Mary, did not receive their vaccinations.

Welch and Fusari have two other children, ages 2 and 4.

On Monday, CPS filed a neglect case against the parents involving their two other children. Fusari is also believed to be pregnant with her fourth child.

The parents are in custody without bond.

The pair could face life behind bars without parole if found guilty of felony murder. They are scheduled to appear back in court on August 20th.
