Angelina Jolie accuses Brad Pitt of not paying ‘meaningful’ child support

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been engulfed in a public dispute over child support after their separation. Jolie has hit back after Pitt alleged that he gave his ex over $9 million since their 2016 split.

After Angelina Jolie alleged in court records that Pitt has paid “no meaningful child support” for their children since they split, Pitt’s team fired back on Wednesday claiming he “loaned [her] $8.0 million to assist in purchasing her residence and has paid over $1.3 million for the benefit of Petitioner and the children.”

Now, Jolie’s lawyer is stating that Pitt’s team was attempting to “obfuscate the truth and distract from the fact that he has not met his legal obligations to support the children,” noting that the $8.0 million was a loan, not a payment, and that Pitt is requiring her to pay back interest. The actress’ lawyer also contended that it was necessary for the woman to purchase a new home because Pitt kept the family home after the break up.

Jolie’s attorney, Samantha Bley DeJean, told PEOPLE that Jolie’s petition for child support “was legally appropriate and factually accurate in all respects.”

She continued, “Brad was asked to assist in the expense of a home for Angelina and the children, but instead he loaned money, for which he is charging interest on a payment plan. Angelina will honor that loan. A loan is not child support and to represent it as such is misleading and inaccurate.”

The statement added that Pitt has not reimbursed 50% of the kids’ expenses, claiming, “Angelina has had to shoulder those without his contribution for two years. Child support is not optional in California. A father of means would pay these voluntarily without the need for a request or court order. We are hopeful this can be resolved without delay or posturing.”

A source told ET that the actress only “wants the marriage to be over” and wants “everything to be straight and move on.” The source also said that Jolie still wants to prioritize co-parenting with her former husband.
