Border Patrol officials working at the Falfurrias checkpoint in Texas intercepted a human smuggler from successfully utilizing an emergency services vehicle to transport migrants into the United States.

The driver bolted from the checkpoint after a K-9 agent signaled regarding some suspicions about the vehicle.

According to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection press release, agents stationed at the Falfurrias Border Patrol Checkpoint in Brooks County noticed an emergency vehicle approaching for inspection about 80 miles north of the U.S.-Mexico Border.

During the first inspection, a K-9 agent signaled to the presence of humans or drugs in the back of the car.

The agents assigned the driver to a secondary inspection station so they could perform a search.

However, the driver failed to stop and escaped from the scene and led authorities on a short high-speed chase that concluded when the vehicle stopped abruptly.

At that time, the driver and several other people ran out of the vehicle and tried to flee on foot.

Agents quickly apprehended the driver, a U.S. citizen, and three Brazilian immigrants who are in the U.S. without documentation.

Officials said the driver is being investigated for impersonating a firefighter.

The human smuggler used an actual Emergency Medical Services vehicle from a volunteer fire station.

He said it has not been reported stolen and was being misused by the human smuggler who was working as a volunteer.

The three Brazilian natives will be processed for deportation and could face charges for immigration violations.
