Former CDC director Thomas Frieden arrested on sex abuse charges

Former U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director Thomas Frieden was arrested on sex abuse charges in New York City.

NYPD officials said Frieden, who surrendered to authorities Friday, is accused of grabbing the buttocks of a woman he knew in his home last October.

Reports indicate the woman reported the incident in July, WPIX reported.

Frieden was ushered into court with his hands cuffed behind his back Friday where he pleaded not guilty to sexual harassment charges.

A judge ordered the former CDC Director to surrender his passport and refrain from having any contact with the woman before he was freed on his own recognizance.

He is scheduled to appear back in court Oct. 11.

Thomas Friedman also previously served as New York City health commissioner.

In a brief statement released following his arrest, Frieden says the allegation against him “does not reflect” his “public or private behavior or his values.”
