Georgia sheriff’s deputies arrested in Mexico for bringing guns on vaction

A pair of Georgia sheriff’s deputies were arrested for illegally bringing their service weapons on their vaction to Mexico.

Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock said 36-year-old Martelle Davis and his wife 31-year-old Shawana Davis traveled on vacation to Cancun on Thursday but were arrested as soon as their flight landed.

The sherrif said both deputies decided to bring their guns along as a safety measure after Cancun experienced several drug-related homicides.

However, despite the raging violence, Mexican law prohibits anyone from carrying firearms.

The couple were consequently booked, fined and returned to the U.S. Monday morning, WMAZ reported.

Hancock said dispite their arrests, the deputies didn’t violate any rules because his office’s policy allows officers to carry their firearm while off duty.

The official did say the officers would be subject to an internal investigation.
