A TV cameraman killed by cartel operatives last week in Cancun, Mexico marks the 13th slaying of a reporter this year and the third of its kind in Quintana Roo over the span of two months.

Cancun’s Canal 10 verified the death of their cameraman, Javier Rodriguez Valladares, in a statement posted on social media.

Rodriguez was murdered as he engaged in a conversation with an artisan along one of the main streets in the city, according to El Universal.

A motive for the murder nor further details about the case have not been revealed.

Rodriguez’s death occurs one month after cartel members fatally shot online reporter Ruben Pat Cahuich outside of a bar in Playa Del Carmen, Quintana Roo.

Cahuich was an established journalist who founded La Playa News.

That murder took place 26 days after a cartel operative murdered Jose Guadalupe Chan Dzib, a former cop-turned-crime reporter for La Playa News.
