Texas father and son charged with fatally shooting neighbor over trash dispute

A father and son were arrested on murder charges in connection with the shooting death of a West Texas man following a reported dispute over trash.

Police in Abilene said officers responded to reports of shots fired around 10:15 a.m. Saturday morning.

Deputies arrived on the scene and discovered the critically wounded victim, identified as 37-year-old Aaron Howard.

Emergency units rushed Howard to a local area hospital where he died a short time later, Valley Central reported.

Police Chief Standridge said 67-year-old John Miller and his 31-year-old son Michael Miller were arrested on murder charges for the shooting death of Howard.

According to Standridge, investigators believe the Millers and the Howards were arguing for the past several days over trash placed in an alley.

Authorities said John Miller took out trash from their home while armed with a pistol on Saturday and “things escalated.”

Court records don’t list attorneys lawyers representing the Millers.
