DEA makes $5M drug raid in Atlanta

Authorities have dismantled a significant metro Atlanta drug enterprise involving a Mexican cartel.

In the probe, which involved a hidden basement, detectives said they discovered cocaine, meth, and a massive amount of cash.

According to Fox 5 Atlanta, DEA agents said that all of the money was stuffed into walls and pieces of luggage. The drugs were located inside food packages.

“Some people may be unhappy today,” East Point Mayor Deana Holiday Ingrahm stated.

The combined amount of drugs and cash in the bust totaled move than $5 million. Agents allege that it all belonged to a Mexican cartel before the raids and traffic stops took place on Friday.

“It’s been ongoing since 2017 targeting a Mexican cartel,” DEA Special Agent in Charge Robert Murphy stated.

Agents also noted that they confiscated roughly $850,000 in cash from a Lawrenceville residence. They also seized over a million dollars worth of heroin mixed with fentanyl, $1 million-worth of meth, and more than $3 million worth of cocaine.

They say it was a collaborative effort between multiple law enforcement departments.

“The way we’re going to be successful is through cooperation, and this is an example of what that cooperation leads to,” Murphy added.

A hidden basement room was located in the Lawrenceville residence where a bogus electric box served as a door, where they recovered cash, firearms, along with drugs.

The drugs were offloaded at a tire shop.
