Border Patrol Agents working in the Texas Laredo Sector arrested a female truck driver after they discovered 62 foreigners locked in her refrigerated trailer.

According to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection press release, agents patrolling the Highway 35 Immigration Checkpoint between Laredo and San Antonio, Texas, noticed a tractor-trailer driving up for inspection.

Officers sent the driver, a female U.S. citizen, to a secondary inspection point.

The agents then opened the refrigerated trailer and discovered 62 undocumented migrants trapped inside.

The agents took the woman into custody and seized the tractor-trailer.

Authorities brought the 62 illegal immigrants to the Laredo Station for processing and found that all were Mexican nationals, officials stated.

None of the individuals needed medical care after an initial examination.

“Criminal organizations view individuals as commodities without regard for their safety. The blatant disregard for life will not be tolerated. We will continue to work to disrupt and dismantle these organizations and prosecute those responsible,” Laredo Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Jason D. Owens announced in a statement.

Agents in Laredo and Rio Grande Valley Sector take part in Operation Big Rig, an initiative intended to recognize human smuggling through the use of trucks and other dangerous vehicles.

Laredo Sector officials indicated that they continue to see rising numbers of migrants locked inside refrigerated trailers.
