Police in South Florida bust two Catholic priests allegedly engaging in sex act in car

On Monday, Two Catholic priests were taken into custody after authorities reported that they were busted performing sexual acts on each other in a parked vehicle near a playground in Miami Beach.

Diego Berrio, 39, and 30-year-old Edwin Giraldo Cortez are facing charges of committing lewd and lascivious behavior after a witness noticed the rendezvous in a Volkswagen Beetle in the middle of the day, according to the New York Post.

Giraldo Cortes is also facing a charge of indecent exposure.

The vehicle did not have tinted windows, so police said they saw the sexual acts when they arrived on the scene. The two Chicago-area Catholic priests didn’t notice the cops until they tapped on the window to get their attention, ABC7 reports.

“I parked my vehicle and approached the side of the vehicle,” an officer indicated on the arrest report, The Miami Herald reported. “I observed Berrio in the passenger seat, performing oral sex on Giraldo who was in the driver’s seat. Giraldo’s pants were unfastened and his genitals exposed.

Both men are from Arlington Heights, a Chicago suburb.

Berrio was a priest at the Mission of San Juan Diego and Cortez at the St. Aloysius Parish in Chicago.

On Tuesday, the Archdiocese of Chicago released a statement announcing that both men will no longer serve as priests in the archdiocese.

“Cardinal Blase J. Cupich, archbishop of Chicago, has removed Father Berrio and withdrawn his faculties to minister in the Archdiocese of Chicago,” the statement indicated.

Berrio was released on Tuesday.
