A former Ohio high school student has filed a lawsuit against a teacher who reportedly groomed him for sex, adopted him and then gave birth to his baby, court documents revealed.

The unidentified 20-year-old victim filed the suit last week against the teacher, Laura Lynn Cross along with the Ohio school districts of Akron and Tallmadge.

According to the New York Post, the lawsuit indicates that Cross started to groom her student for the alleged relationship back in 2009 when he was only 12 years old. The pair first had sex in 2012 when he was a freshman enrolled in Buchtel High School.

Their relationship then grew more complex in 2015 when Cross persuaded his mother to grant her partial custody so she could be his “mentor.” He then moved in with the educator at her residence in Tallmadge.

The victim’s mother filed a police report claiming that the two were having an affair in 2015 but no charges were filed until six months later when investigators discovered that Cross had given birth to the student’s child.

The 37-year-old was sentenced to three years behind bars for sexual battery tied to the three-year relationship with the student.

The lawsuit — which alleges sexual harassment, assault, battery, and negligent hiring — seeks undefined damages for the victim.

“This case challenges the supervisory and other failures on the part of Akron Public Schools, their agents and employees and Tallmadge City Schools to prevent adult Laura Lynn Cross, from abusing, assaulting, and raping the plaintiff, a student and a minor,” the suit said.
