Alabama Police chief arrested for lewd acts in public

A police chief in Alabama was taken into custody last week after he reportedly masturbated on a beach in front of teenagers, and was also caught touching himself in an elevator with women and children.

Billy Maurice Driggers has been charged with four counts of disorderly conduct after bystanders told authorities that they witnessed him sitting outside of the Aqua Condominium in Panama City Beach, Florida fondling himself.

Officers said Driggers was staying at the hotel and had no legitimate reason to be there.

Witnesses told investigators that Driggers was seen on three occasions putting his hand in his pants and masturbating while in an elevator filled with women and children, MyPanhandle.com reported.

According to authorities, the 44-year-old was also seen allegedly masturbating while walking behind teenage girls on the beach and filming them while they used the outdoor showers.

Detectives said Driggers did not expose himself but noted that his behavior was offensive and sexually deviant, causing them to file an arrest warrant.

Driggers, who served as the chief of police in Level Plains, Alabama, was taken into custody at his office last Thursday and is in custody at the Dale County Jail. He is expected to be extradited to Bay County, Florida.

Level Plains Mayor Bruce Grantham put Driggers on administrative leave as they carry out an employment review.

“The City of Level Plains will be cooperating with the investigation with Alabama and Florida law enforcement. In the interim during Driggers absence, another Police Officer will be appointed to serve as the acting chief pending the resolution of the investigation,” Grantham announced. “This will not affect current police services to our citizens.”
