A federal judge has sentenced Billy McFarland, the founder of the disastrous 2017 Fyre Festival in the Bahamas to six years in prison.

Billy McFarland appeared before Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald in Manhattan federal court packed with friends and family on Thursday, where he pleaded guilty to defrauding investors of $26 million in the 2017 Frye music festival.

The promoter also admitted to his role in a $100,000 fraudulent ticket-selling scheme following his arrest in the festival scam.

Buchwald blasted McFarland as a “serial fraudster” who was deserving of a long prison term because he disregarded the criminal justice system by lying to law enforcement agents investigating the ticket-selling business.

McFarland spoke to the court and apologized while maintaining he had hit rock bottom but plans to use his term of incarceration to become a better person.
